 Wicked Good Boogie Band
Archival print, digital, 2006

Bringing back New Orleans, One Song at a Time.  Shut Up and Dance.  Music in Your Hair.  Wicked Good Boogie Band.

Here at the Studio in the Swamp, (Washington Parish, Louisiana), Katrina was much worse than Ida.  We enjoy being surrounded by forest. This is where I want to live, I love being surrounded by trees. Katrina tornados took all the leaves off of the trees.  The canopy was bare from the end of August, until the next spring, when Mother Nature revived herself.  I am grateful that our house and studio were not damaged.  We were without power for six weeks.  To cool off and bathe, we swam in the spring fed creek.  We did OK, because we like camping.  We did OK, but when the power came back on we were ready to really appreciate electricity.

New Orleans was settled in 1718, she has survived many storms and the civil war.  Soon, New Orleans will be better than ever.

Amethyst Dance

  Amethyst Dance

Archival ink jet print,  9/21

Joyful, exhilarated, happy, energetic, beautiful,  Jumping for joy.  Almost flying.  This is how I want to feel.  When I create these  uplifting images I feel happy.

I really like how the colors came together here.  The saturated blue, purple and green are brilliant without being garish.  The rich colors are jewel like,  like an amethyst. I have been working with this color combo for a while, and they really created rich harmony here.

Oh! These terrible times.  Damn!  Pandemic, war, hurricane, flooding.  Government, politics, shut the damn TV off.  Just let me focus on making things better in my little corner of the world.  I try to think positive.  Every cloud has a silver lining.  I am Queen of Denial.

We got a bit of damage from that bitch Ida. Here in Washington Parish, maybe about a hundred miles from the coast.   We have been focusing on cleaning up and repairing damage.  We were out of power for only two days.  Just long enough to make me grateful for clean water coming out of the tap.  Just long enough to appreciate electricity.  A tornado came through and downed some large trees that blocked the trail down to the creek.  A husky neighbor has done a lot of chain sawing, the trail is almost clear.  No damage to the house.  Thank Goddess.

This picture was created in photoshop.  I have been doing photoshop since the late 90's. You can order prints on canvas or paper ($60.00), from Saatchi Art Online.

I often use photoshop pictures as a guide to create paintings.  I would love for you to commission a painting of this picture.  Or any other pxs you see on this blog.  Just G-mail me and tell me what you want.  I could probably make the picture in a month or six weeks, depending on the size that you want.

Thank Goddess for the activity of creating art.  Getting into the art creativity zone helps my mind to feel that I am making the world more beautiful.  The art zone is were I want to be.  When you look at this picture, I hope that you feel a bit happier.

WISTY

 Wisty

Archival prints, digital

WISTY is a beautiful woman who is wistful and has wisteria flowers for hair.  She looks dreamy, thoughtful, peaceful.  She has soul.  Her dress is made of clouds. The cardinal bird brings good luck.  The dragonflies and moths are golden colored.

"Mariam with Cardinal"

Mariam with Cardinal
digital, archival prints, 7/2021

 close up

First, I did the woman's smiling face with dramatic light and shade.  I thought, "It needs a bird", so I added the cardinal.  As I was working I was reminded of an experience that occurred in 2002.  I had bought my forever home property, in the deep country of Washington Parish, LA.  While the house was being built by family and friends we camped out by the creek.

I was cooking for a group, so set up an outdoor kitchen.  A bird built a nest in the kitchen area, she was not bothered by my presence as she flew back and forth to feed her new hatchlings.  At one point she was sitting on the edge of her nest staring at me.  I stared back.  When she blinked her eyes, I blinked my eyes.  I waited a few moments and blinked again, she blinked back.  This exchange went on for several minutes before she flew off for more baby food.  I know, maybe it was just coincidence that she blinked in reaction to my blinks.  But, I believe that we were communicating.  That we were having a friendly conversation.

I was reminded of this and so painted eye contact between the woman and bird in this picture.

"Feminine"

 Feminine

Digital painting, archival print, 6/2021

I have been creating similar feminine images to this since the 90's.  This one is a bit suggestive.  I worked and played with in photoshop until this image showed up.  I like it.  Hope that you like it.

Angelina, Layered Headshots

Angelina 1

Digital painting, archival prints

Angelina 2

Digital painting, archival prints

Angelina 3

Digital painting, archival prints

Here are three versions of "Angelina, Layered Headshots", my latest photoshop paintings.  My goal was to create the woman's face with layers from my previously created Geometrix series images.  I used the cascade of marbles that I had created for the "I Still Have All My Marbles" picture.  And, two other files of images of half circle and diamond shapes.

I think that they are beautiful.  I aspire to create beauty, because beauty makes us happy.
