POMONA

POMONA
digital, archival prints

close up, head shot

Pomona is the Roman Goddess of fruitful abundance.

I named my vegetable garden after her.  The garden is 22'x22', rather small.  It is organic and I tend it with hand tools.  The recent harvest was abundant for the size of the garden.

The inspiration and reference for this digital painting is an ancient Roman statue.  The statue is approximately 1300 years old.  Prior to this Roman conception, the Greek Goddess Demeter had similar characteristics.  Prior to the Greeks the Sumerians named their goddess of agriculture Nibada.

I enjoy feeling a part of a stream of creations that have been developing for many centuries.

I hope she will inspire you to be abundant in whatever field you endeavor to cultivate.

Prints may be ordered from Saatchi Art online:

Walk Tall, Two

 Walk Tall, Two
archival print, collage on panel, digital, 21-9-29

Another image of Walk Tall, with different colors and composition.

When I make art I am in the zone.  Color fascinates me.  Different combinations of colors contribute to the mood of the piece.  I favor sinuous lines and also use geometrix squares and zig zags. Harlequin patterns. Mandalas.

Lately, I have done a few portraits of imaginary women.  A variety of styles appear.  I start with a rough in of the features.  Sometimes, that is all I do, the face is cartoonish.  Other times, the face evolves to abstract geometrix.  I think that the most frequent style that i use for faces is painterly realistic.  I keep working until I get an expression that I like.

While I make decisions and create lines, shapes and color, I am in the zone.  Totally involved in a process that I enjoy.  I follow my muse, she is always showing me something new.  Making art, for over 50 years, has evolved my spirit.

Art is the way to communicate visually.  You are invited to explore this path with me.

Three Point Yoga

 Three Legged Dog

photoshop, 9/15/2020

In Sankrit this yoga posture is named, " Tri Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana".

I think that this style of figure shows "tribal" influence.

I took yoga classes for about twenty, twenty five, years, from the 70's into the 90's.  I seldom do yoga sessions now.  But, at times, I am aware of my body, like when I am waiting for the coffee to brew, and do Mountain Pose, just standing straight and balanced with deep breathing.  I used to do Mountain Pose while waiting in lines.

I can still touch my toes.  I was never able to do a head stand without propping my feet against the wall.  The yoga practice that i did is still benefiting me.  I think that it taught me more self awareness, and more awareness in general.  The practice taught me what little poise that I possess.

These days my exercise is gardening.  This is a nice work out for my age.  Bending, stooping, hoeing, shoveling.  Sometimes i think that i should do more yoga, then i think, that i should not should on myself.
